The discovery of the body of a 26-year-old man dumped near a bridge in Ashdown, Pietermaritzburg, has enraged the community after two people were reportedly seen moving the dead body in a wheelbarrow.
Mboniseni Gcabashe’s body (26) was discovered in the early hours of Sunday, lying at Peace Valley 2 bridge, with stab wounds.
It is believed that Gcabashe was killed somewhere else but his body was dumped at Peace Valley 2 bridge.

Ward 23 councillor Dumisani Phungula told The Witness that two people were seen pushing Gcabashe’s body in a wheelbarrow towards the bridge.
A man and a woman have since been arrested.
He said that at around 6 am he started receiving phone calls about the body at the bridge, prompting people to go out to check.
“The residents were so angry and shocked that they made it a point to go and look for those who are suspected to have been involved in this murder,” he said.
“What makes it more shocking is that they killed him and put his body in a wheelbarrow to dump him like he was nothing. What kind of person does that? What has happened to humanity?”
This is scary because it looks like these people knew each other, but one is killed in this manner
Phungula said it was believed that the body was dumped there because those responsible were trying to divert attention away from themselves.
“We heard that the incident took place at one of the informal settlements.
“We are very grateful to the community, who took a stand and also [refrained from] taking the law into their own hands.”

The deceased’s body was found with three stab wounds. It is still not clear what might have led to his killing
“However, two suspects, a man aged 37 and a woman aged 43, have been arrested. They are charged with murder and they are expected to appear in court this week,” he said.
