Huge crowds expected at city Athletics Stadium for ASA event
The City Of Choice is expected to host hundreds of visiting parents, officials and athletics followers.
The eagerly-awaited and much-publicised ASA Senior Track and Field SA Championships at Msunduzi Athletics Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, from April 18-21, is expected to attract huge crowds.

According to the national athletics governing body, Athletics South Africa (ASA), “all is in order” and they are just waiting for the day to arrive.

On Wednesday the KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA) communications officer, who is also one of the organisers, Mandla Mngomezulu, confirmed to The Witness that both national and provincial athletics representatives are raring to go and expected to deliver one of the best events in the calendar.

“Remember, all the provinces from around the country will be hosted by Pietermaritzburg for four days,” said Mngomezulu.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Absa Run Your City events are expected to paint different cities red and on fire for the next few months.
Glenrose Xaba will be targeting only the second sub-32-minute 10 km of her career when she lines up for the Absa Run Your City Gqeberha 10K on Sunday.

Xaba was the first South African home, placing fourth overall in a then personal best time of 32:23 in the inaugural Absa Run Your City Gqeberha 10K in 2023.
Despite failing to achieve her target of finishing inside the top 30 at the World Cross Country Championships in Serbia on March 31, this year, Xaba remains bullish about her prospects of running faster than she ever has before over 10 km.
