The murder trial of former Pietermaritzburg police officer, Calvin Schoeman, is set down at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court for the beginning of July.
Schoeman appeared at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of his 25-year-old girlfriend, Tanya Oakes, who was shot dead two years ago.
The lifeless body of Oakes was found dumped outside Northdale Hospital in November 2021. Oakes was shot in the face, allegedly with an SAPS-owned firearm.

We, the Oakes family, would like to thank Sansha Singh Attorneys from here in Pietermaritzburg for all that they have done for us thus far. We are happy that we finally got a trial date.
“Yes, the dates are a bit far but this whole case has taught us patience as a family,” said Quinton Oakes, Tanya’s uncle.
